South Dakota has great riding and great scenery. However, this was my first encounter with dirt roads and gravel. It seemed like everytime you turned around... you would come up on a turn with gravel or a gas station parking lot full of sand. It took a little time to get used to... BUT, I never saw any trash. People seemed to be very conscious about not damaging the environment.
